In southern Europe, the current borders have only been established for 25 years. It started in 1912, when the past Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia began conquering the Ottoman Empire, which expand the borders. Albania also gained independence in 1912, and was added to Europe. Then in 1941, Italy, Yugoslavia, and Greece were taken under Hitler’s control, until 1945 when the borders returned to normal. In 1973 the European Economic community was in place, and Spain,Portugal, and Greece joined in with Italy and other European countries. In 1991 Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Macedonia were added to Europe as countries. The last countries, Slovenia and Czech Republic, were added when Czechoslovakia split into the two countries.
